Throughout 2026\, the Mission will showcase a different artifact from its extensive archives each month\, offering visitors a rare opportunity to encounter objects that tell the story of the Mission across centuries. \nMany of these artifacts are seldom seen by the public. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, November 1\, 2026\, Mission San Juan Capistrano will mark its 250th anniversary. This remarkable milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on the Mission’s enduring legacy of tradition\, faith and its far-reaching historical significance in California and beyond. \nIn celebration of this historic anniversary\, the Mission Preservation Foundation is proud to present a special\, yearlong Artifact of the Month program. Throughout 2026\, the Mission will showcase a different artifact from its extensive archives each month\, offering visitors a rare opportunity to encounter objects that tell the story of the Mission across centuries. \nMany of these artifacts are seldom seen by the public. DESCRIPTION:Discover the etchings of early California missions this March! The Henry Chapman Ford Etchings Exhibit will feature 24 original works on display in our West Wing. This exhibit is made possible by the James Irvine Swinden Family Collection. \nIn the late 1800s\, American artist Henry Chapman Ford traveled through California by horse and buggy\, visiting each of the missions to create paintings\, drawings\, and etchings of the historic landmarks. His work is often credited with reviving public interest in California’s Spanish era and preserving an important visual record of the missions before the turn of the century.
