\n<\/b>From St. Jun\u00edpero Serra to Lieutenant William Emory – The story of Mission San Juan Capistrano is told through the writings of a surprisingly wide-ranging group of visitors to the mission stretching from its founding as a Spanish outpost in 1776 to\u00a0becoming a part of the United States of America in the 1840s.<\/em>

\n<\/b>The Books that Made Mission San Juan Capistrano – Few are aware that the mission’s original library, assembled by the missionaries themselves, remains in the mission’s collection. Annotations in some of the books tie them to some of the most important missionaries and events in the history of California and tell a fascinating story about how the mission was built, organized, and maintained.<\/em>

\n<\/b>How Old are These Buildings, Anyway? – The story of the mission’s many buildings can be pieced together through a combination of historical documents, archaeology, and detective work. Together they suggest that the oldest standing buildings in California are here at the mission and provide a unique insight into what missions were and how they operated.<\/em>
\n<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

About Eric Plunkett
\n<\/i><\/b><\/span>Eric Plunkett is an educator in the Placentia Yorba-Linda Unified School District. A native of Placentia, he graduated with a degree in history from California State University Fullerton in 2008. He has published several articles and co-authored the book, The Portol\u00e1 Expedition in Orange County 1769-2019, with the late historian, Phil Brigandi.
